I think the absolute worst part of this job however, is how the company treats the dogs. Whenever I told them no, I was scolded for not being a “team player”. I applied for daytime shifts and got pressured constantly to work nights or go to other locations whenever they want. In the interview you’ll be asked about your patience levels, willingness to remain in a “positive attitude” at work, and never getting to sit down and take a break. If someone doesn’t show up to their shift you can’t just leave at the end of your shift because there’s no one else to watch the 50+ dogs you’re having to watch alone. The worst parts of the job include the hostile work environment that management provides, and overworking. The best part of the job it’s the pups honestly. Some coworkers are great, because you can bond on bad management together. They don’t always show up sober, and if you come up to them with a problem, it won’t be addressed and you will be gaslit. There are a few people in management positions, and yes they have the “holier than thou” attitude. You’ll get to oversee dozens of dogs with zero help:) Typical day at work, clock in and enjoy a strenuous day at city dog club.
